Mount Dora’s parks dripping with Spanish moss, flower-lined sidewalks, and an abundance of restaurants make it a popular tourist destination, not to mention its annual festivals that draw thousands upon thousands each year.

History

Mount Dora is the ideal destination if you’re searching for a tranquil, relaxed retreat just an hour from Orlando. This small town offers Old Florida country living with lakes, quiet inns, shops, a historic railroad station, and plenty of delicious dining options – making it the ideal weekend getaway!

Established in 1880, this town is renowned for its small-town charm and numerous antique shops. Additionally, it’s home to one of Florida’s three freshwater lighthouses and hosts regular festivals throughout the year.

Mount Dora’s intriguing history dates back to its earliest days of settlement. It was once a popular Chautauqua destination where visitors gathered beside Lake Gertrude and Lake Dora for educational and cultural enrichment.

Experience something truly extraordinary by renting a seaplane to take in the stunning views from above. Tours range from 10 minutes to an hour and will provide your family with plenty of opportunities for fun together.

Mount Dora is a small town filled with nostalgia. It boasts lakes, tranquil country inns, shops, an old railroad station, and plenty of gourmet restaurants to suit any palate.

Mount Dora boasts a vibrant downtown that exudes history. Numerous landmarks are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, making Mount Dora an ideal destination for history enthusiasts.

The town is renowned for its festivals, which take place throughout the year. One of the most popular is Renninger’s Antique Extravaganza which draws over 800 antique dealers three times annually.

The Famous Donnelly House

Mount Dora boasts an array of historic homes and buildings to explore. Some are situated along the picturesque lakes, while others can be found within Mount Dora’s charming downtown district.

The Donnelly House, for instance, is one of Mount Dora’s most iconic landmarks. Constructed in 1893 with Queen Anne architecture style, it remains a landmark.

This historic home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is home to the local Masonic lodge and, twice monthly, the showplace of Mount Dora’s and central Florida’s most unique live event; Mind, Myth & Magic. This two-hour intimate evening of illusion is hosted by me, Scott Humston. The evening is full of laughs & Wonder!

Another must-see in Mount Dora is Renninger’s Twin Markets, an antique mall and flea market. You can also glimpse the area’s vibrant history at their Museum.
