A Magician Surprised!

It’s not often the tables get turned and the magician experiences Wonder. But that’s just what happened to me while recording a podcast during the D6 conference. It was a sweet & Wonder-Full reminder of the power of bringing Joy to others. As part of my speaking, Randall House Publishers (the conference producers) asked if I would record a podcast for distribution in 2021. So, of course, I was willing! They have a first-class event, and I knew that the podcast would be first-class, too. The make-shift podcast studio was set up in the middle of the conference center’s lobby at the World Marriott in Orlando.

As I sat down with host David Jones, he introduced me very generously. Then before going into the interview, he surprised me with an Oprah-like moment! Producers typically let you know what questions will are coming so that you can prepare, etc. And I WAS given a talking points sheet in my speaker packet upon my arrival. I had studied the questions and felt ready and prepared for the recording. So you can imagine my surprise when David started;
“This isn’t the first time we’ve met,” he said as he began. I was frozen at the brief moment, thinking to myself, “Okay… where’s he going with this…” So as you’ll see in this quick video, I was surprised & delighted at his reveal to me!

You’ll hear him describe a “trick” that he recalled, almost precisely correct since watching it twenty-five years earlier. It is a vivid reminder that people don’t remember what you may say, but they will remember how you made them feel. That’s the power of a moment of Wonder. So what moments do you remember 25 years later? I imagine the are moments of emotions—some very good, happy, and Wonder-Filled. And then those powerful memories of deep hurt, anger, grief, or sadness. So in John, 16:33, Christ says, “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” Those moments of deep sorrow are part of our humanity. But so are those brilliant moments of Joy! Of Wonder!

So a moment in the life of someone can leave them with a memory of laughter, joy, and Wonder for a lifetime! So I desire to share as many moments of Wonder in the hearts & minds of people as possible.

Sharing His Wonder,

Scott Humston

    David C. Biggers

    David C. Biggers was my father-in-law.  Take a moment and let me introduce you. David was quite the character, and, I believe, everything anyone would want in a father and grandfather; loyal, playful; joyful; generous; fun and, at times, downright hysterical. One of our “regular” activities with David was eating out when we would make…
