Kneemail July 2023 – Life, Liberty & The Pursuit…

This month each year, we think more about those words that still ring in our ears from the DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE, 1776. They seem to be the ideal of every person living today … yet do we really understand the “rules of the game?”

For most Americans, when we think of “life and the pursuit of happiness,”… we think of “pleasures above and beyond the norm.” When we think of “liberty,” we think of “being totally free of all restraints”… such as being free as a bird.

However, the reality is that to be (as we picture it) totally free of all restraints is to cripple ourselves and to break ourselves on a higher law. For example, “to be free as a bird.” A bird is free to move about the air as he wishes, and this is what we see as an ideal. On the other hand, the bird is only free as he observes (consciously or unconsciously) the higher law of aerodynamics. If he decides to “do his own thing and be his own boss” and only fly with one wing, he will crash, and the higher law has broken him instead of him breaking that law.

A man can be perfectly free to try to break the law of gravity by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge. He quite possibly will “feel” free for a few moments as he drops through the fog of the Bay, but he will be broken by the very law he tried to break when he hits the water hundreds of feet below.

Back in the 60s, the “sexual revolution” taught a gullible public that to be totally free to do anything one wanted sexually was true liberty. Yet we are reaping today the broken homes, ruined lives (of parents and children), and rampant sexually transmitted diseases. As a result, we, the society, pay the price, whether we have been involved or not.

All of us are affected by these “gross misinterpretations of liberty” in more ways than we can imagine.

We have not broken God’s laws of purity … His laws have broken us. (Commandments # 7 and # 10, Exodus 20)

The fact is that REAL LIBERTY,…. and HAPPINESS … and LIFE only come with a wholehearted observance of, and adhering to, the laws of God;

LIFE  “In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.” “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 1:4 & 10:10) [bctt tweet=”There is no REAL life, either here or in eternity without Jesus living in your life.” username=”scotthumston”]

LIBERTY  “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” ” It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”

“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” ( John 8:32 & 36)

HAPPINESS  “If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love.  I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.”(John 15: 10-11)

This month, this year, and each moment of our lives, may we pursue His grace and Life.

Sharing His Wonder,

  • The Passover & Last Supper

    [vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][/vc_column][/vc_row]   Every year as Christians around the world celebrate the resurrection of Christ, many practicing Hebrew people celebrate the Passover.  In fact, it was the Passover Seder meal, that Christ (a Hebrew Rabbi) was celebrating as he gave the Last Supper to his disciples. There is much symbolism in the Passover Seder meal—much foreshadowing of…

  • Kneemail August 2023 – Witnessing His Wonder

    Ever wonder about Wonder? I love that word. I love Sharing His Wonder with fellow believers and not-yet-believers alike. A simple sleight-of-hand trick can create Wonder, sure. But when we look closely at God’s word, we understand better the sanctity that consumes His Wonder. The concept of Wonder is deeply ingrained in the Bible, with…
