Intuition, a hunch, or E.S.P?

How many times have you had an impression of something you should do, or a thought or idea cross your mind? Later you found out that a positive reaction to that idea was the best thing you could have done. Was it an educated guess … was it because you are “smarter” than others … was it just a lucky coincidence?

I am thoroughly convinced of the Biblical answer to that. I believe that the reason for those great, helpful and good impressions is E.S.P. — but be sure you know what I mean by E.S.P.

When you accept Christ as your Savior, the Holy Spirit comes to live in your heart. (Romans 8:9) One of the most important ministries of the Holy Spirit is to give you leadership in your daily life. (Luke 2:27, 4:1, Acts 16:6-7) You see, He is concerned about giving you God’s leadership in the small and large things of life.

In other words, you — as a child of God — have E.S.P.. … Extra Spiritual Perception. You can have the mind of Christ in your life.

There are important conditions to understanding and interpreting this guidance:

First, you must be sure that you have received Christ as your personal Savior. (John1:12, Romans 10:9-13) This leadership is available only to the “saved.” Jesus said that those who had not received Him were the children of Satan. (John 8:44)

Second, there must be no unconfessed sin in your life. Sin is the greatest hindrance to joy in the Christian’s life. Immediately upon realizing that you have sinned, you should confess that sin to the Lord. Claim His promise of forgiveness and cleansing … and know that you have it because He promised it! (I John 1:9)

Third, claim by faith (“faith” means “without doubt”) the fullness of the Holy Spirit for your life. God commanded you to be filled (that is; “controlled and empowered”) by the Holy Spirit. (Ephesians 5:18) He promised that you will have this if you will ask for it in faith. (I John 5:14-15)

Fourth, act upon the guidance He gives you. Real “faith” is acting upon it … knowing it is true. You must act upon step #1 before He reveals step #2 to you. Obeying the leadership Christ does not always result in crowd approval or understanding by friends and loved ones.

(Stephen was filled with the Holy Spirit and the crowd stoned him to death. (Acts 7:54-60) However, Peter was filled with the Holy Spirit, and 3,000 souls were saved. (Acts 2:1-41) The important thing is that both were filled with the Holy Spirit and were obedient to the leadership of the Lord.)

When you are completely right with the Lord, you automatically know what His will for you is. You may not be able to explain “how” … you just know! This is His…Extra SpiritualPerception. When you are spiritually in tune with God, you can follow those Impressions from God. You can know that He is leading you. It is no “hunch” … it is God “super-naturally” directing you. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
